The role of a trustee

Are you a Trustee of a Trust? If so, you have duties, powers and liabilities to consider.

Although you are not required to act as Trustee even if named in a document as such, once you are appointed, you want to take your position seriously. Seeking guidance from professionals must be considered.

A Trustee may need guidance and advice from an attorney, an accountant, a financial advisor, a real estate professional or other professional.

Being organized from the start is so important. If you are overwhelmed, it is very important to seek the advice of a professional. Acting in a manner that is thoughtful and deliberate, as opposed to rash and aggressive, is utmost important.

As well, appropriate documentation of various meetings, phone calls and other actions is very useful in the event you are ever questioned as to why certain decisions were made or certain actions taken.

I thoroughly review all matters with a Trustee and consider all necessary actions to be taken. Should you need assistance in this area, please reach out to me. My email is ruthpgeorge@gmail.com
