World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Today, June 15, 2019, is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. I have been involved in elder abuse matters which have been heartbreaking.
If you have the ability to help someone out sooner rather than later, it can be life-changing.
I know it is not easy to try to help, but, if you can, please think of these three points:
1. While the individual has the capacity, legal documents should be executed with the appropriate fiduciaries and beneficiaries named. Power of Attorney documents can play an incredibly important role here.
2. Older adults should not be isolated and this should be prevented. Those that prey on vulnerable adults often seek to keep them away from others who would otherwise protect them.
3. Increase your communication with the individual, other family members, neighbors and anyone around him or her.
I really hope this helps you assist someone else whose life can change with your impact.
